The first practice of physiotherapy started back in the 18th century. Mr. Henrik Ling started physiotherapy practice in 1813 in Sweden. So he is called as “FATHER OF SWEDISH GYMNASTICS”. After that in 1887, physiotherapists were given official registration by Sweden’s National Board of Health and Welfare. Other countries soon followed.

In following years, various methods and other techniques developed in the field of physiotherapy. Modern physiotherapy was established in Britain in the 19th century. Soon in other countries, people started practicing physiotherapy. During the period of First World War role of physiotherapy was greatly emphasized.
